Great success! High Five!

Andrew has been doing very well with bedtime. As in, I put him in his crib, turn on his aquarium, and he goes right to sleep (about a month ago, I was having problems with him crying as soon as I put him in his crib).

I've found that the trick is he wants to sit up while I point to the fishies and the coral and the starfish. So, the conversation goes, "Look at the fishies! There's the pink one and the yellow one...and there's some coral, and some more coral. Oh, there's the starfish. Let's push the button and get a different song...what color lights do you want?" [I push the button several times to click through the blue, the green, and the yellow]. He watches with a smile on his face and by the time the thing turns off (about 10 minutes), there is silence so I know he's sleeping.

Well, last night, he surprised me. I set him in his crib (upright) and he went right for the pillow to lie down, all with a big smile on his face. What an angel! I then did the whole routine, so as not to throw off the good groove we had going.

He went to sleep! By the way, my boy's bedtime is 9:45/10:00. That's slightly insane, but any earlier, and he isn't tired enough and screams. I am hoping to creep back the bedtime some, but for now, this is what it has to be.

ETA: He also only got up once to nurse, and that was at 3:30 am, meaning he slept for 5.5 hours straight. That rarely happens! Could he be thinking of weaning soon? Stay tuned...

oh wow! this is so great! WHOOHOO andrew!

Our night time has been thrown off, I blamed it on my change in the schedule- some nights I am home at 6, and others 8. So we need to find something else that works... oh we have been guilty of just putting B in bed with us to and that has made things way worse.....

I have no idea what bedtime is going to be like once we get home from this agonizingly long hospital stay. All I know is, my kid sleeps at night when I want to sleep and that's what matters to me. Snaps on getting the bedtime thing down!

I'm so impressed that you're still nursing. Addison is turning 8 months tomorrow and I've told her several times she only has 4 months left until we start weaning. How long are you willing to nurse? I have some aquantinces that are still nursing 2 year olds...which is cool...for them!

Becky,
thank you! Honestly, my initial goal was 1 year, and then that became 15 months, which then became 18 months, and here we are at 20.

It's been very easy to just continue, much harder than trying to stop. I was able to cut out the noon feeding sometime last fall, at about 14 months. I was working on cutting out the 4:00 pm feeding next, but he always realizes it. That's the feeding when I get home from work. He just wants to nurse immediately, and the most he's ever gone with waiting is about 2.5 hours.

We intend to wean this summer because for me, two is the outer limit. I want to be done nursing by two.

Sleeping through the night... that's for people without children. And, I understand the bedtime thing... The Boy does NOT want to go to bed before he's darn good and ready, which could be anytime between 7:30PM and 11PM, depending.

I know that on Wednesday nights he likes to watch Lost with me at 9. He's a Hurley fan.

I've had several friends that have said 2 is their limit too! Caden weaned at 11.5 months on his own making it VERY easy. Addison refuses bottles so while I say I will only nurse until a year...it may be longer!
